Bentonville Library partners with 13 regional public libraries to provide this service. All libraries add to our shared collection, so you never know when you will see something new!
We often receive questions on audiobooks and eBooks and both formats are compatible on a variety of devices. The most popular devices being used by our patrons include Nook, Kindle, Sony readers and iPhones/iPads/iPods. Patrons may check out five items, any format, per library card. Unfortunately, renewals are not allowed. Early returns are available for eBooks.
About Library2Go! Consortium
In April 2009, Bentonville Library joined forces with five other public libraries in our local region to form a consortium to provide downloadable audiobooks for our patrons. The accessibility and mobility of this service prompted the six libraries to dub our consortium “Library2Go!” Since we began, we have added eBooks, videos and music to our audiobook collection.
To date, our partnership has grown to 14 local public libraries! From April 2009 to year-end 2011, our Library2Go! consortium purchased more than 7,750 titles which circulated more than 114,000 times.
Each library is responsible for developing the digital collection by purchasing titles for the consortium. The collections are shared across the libraries’ patronage, providing an expanded collection for our participating libraries. Such shared access allows library users to download more titles than individual libraries could provide through our own budgets. To provide fair and equitable access, the group agrees upon particular loan terms. Recently, the consortium extended loan periods and check out limits for our patrons.
To provide a variety of resources, while meeting high demand for popular titles, the consortium runs weekly reports and places orders to address the hold to copy ratio. Our goal is to maintain an approximate ratio of 5 holds to 1 copy. We appreciate your patience and understanding when you are waiting for great new titles.
