Great Book - Good Advice!

Posted by Heather on 7 March 2012 | 0 Comments

I just finished the book Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making it Work by Tim Gunn.  Mr. Gunn has achieved fame by recently appearing on the television show Project Runway, but he has been a member of the fashion world for most of his career. I will admit that I approached this book with some trepidation, but the first few pages caught my attention so I thought I would give it a try.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that he believes in politeness, hard work, and creativity as means to get ahead in life.  He also stresses several times in the book that the world doesn't owe us anything, and that to get ahead we must take what we have and use it to transform our lives.  He includes stories from his youth that, quite frankly, made me feel much better about some of my fears that I have wrestled with in the past!  His down-to-earth advice and approachable writing style made me laugh at times, get a little teary at times, but most importantly think about improvements I can make in my own life.  I think we should all say Mr. Gunn's catch-phrase when we face difficulties- just make it work!
